The Rusty Wright Band

About: The Rusty Wright Band

Forged in the Michigan factory towns that have served as a melting pot of inspiration for scores of legendary acts and tempered on stages the world over, RWB’s music has been described as “A smart collection of adrenalized modern blues that showcases not only Rusty Wright's considerable guitar chops but an obvious ability to fuse blues and rock in a way that draws from the former's traditions and the latter's high-voltage power.” Blues Impresario Steve Simon called them “One of the most entertaining Blues bands in the country today,” and Rick Raven of Rev. Raven & the Chain Smokin' Altar Boys said "The Rusty Wright Band should headline EVERY show they are on. This band is THAT good. Best I've seen in years."

Make no mistake - this act is much more than a "guitar" band. Soaring Hammond B3 organ, bouncing piano runs and soulful vocal riffs volley to and fro across the stage in answer to Rusty's six-string challenge as he pushes his band to ever greater feats of improvisation as the band swings, rocks and croons its way through sets of music from the band's three CDs and two concert DVDs.

PRESS:

Rarely does one give an unequivocal recommendation on first listening, but I have no hesitation in giving this, the "just buy it" seal of approval. From the start, this brilliant album exhibits all that is great about US Blues/rock. From the wonderful guitar solos and smooth vocals of Michigan-based band leader Rusty Wright, through the harmonies and vocals of his wife Laurie LaCross Wright, classic keyboard accompaniment to rock solid rhythms and occasional horns parts, this is simply marvelous. In all styles, whether it is southern rock ('World Upside Down'), Blues ballads ('Messin' Round' and 'Make A Liar Out Of Me'), blistering Aerosmith-type rock ('Last Day Of Whitey Malone'), done-me-wrong Blues ('You Ain't Thinkin' Bout Me') or the sensational energy of 'What A Ride', this band has all the chops. Lynyrd Skynyrd's influence is plain to see in a 'A Change In The Weather', so much so, I half expected to hear Van Zant's vocals! The blistering rave-up conclusion is the title track of the album. This truly is powerful stuff! ~ Blues Matters Magazine

St. John Blues Festival in the US Virgin Islands
I have been producing Blues concerts and festivals all over the world for over 20 years and I have never seen an audience reaction like I just saw this past Saturday night. The Rusty Wright Band was my opening act and they came out of the gate with an incredible atomic energy that brought everyone to their feet. Within the first minute of their first song they had thousands of people up and dancing. The Rusty Wright Band set the bar for the acts that followed them. - Steve Simon, promoter and Bluzapalooza producer

Bayfront Blues Festival
Saturday started out with a gust of wind and it never stopped blowing. Big Walter Smith and the Groove Merchants did their "thang" and woke the folks up and got 'em ready for the high energy and one of the crowd favorites of the festival The Rusty Wright Band. As I looked around I swear that in my 5 year history at the fest I have never seen this many people gather at the "small" stage for an afternoon show. Everyone who had feet was up dancing and enjoying the show. Seems Ms. Wright had quite a following of her own and I heard more than a few folks say she was the star of the show! - Blueshammer, Blue Monday Monthly
